 | I am a trained birth doula working towards my certification and am happy to offer my services for a reduced price.
I realized my passion for supporting women through birth while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa. While in Senegal, I had the opportunity to attend many births and support the work of my most dedicated and caring host mother, also the village birth attendant. Women in my host village gave birth in unfortunate conditions - in a room with no electricity, no equipment, on a hard bed and most importantly, with little emotional or physical support. I grew an incredible respect for Senegalese women. However, I still believed that they didn’t have to prove to be so strong, that there must be another way to natural childbirth. This is where my journey into the birthing world began. I returned home from Senegal inspired to continue supporting women through birth. I completed DONA's birth doula training workshop in September 2009 and am working towards my final certification. I truly believe in the doula's ability to help facilitate the birth experience every woman deserves. As your doula, I will help you achieve your desired birth (with or without the use of interventions) and with the help of your support team, we will do our best to make sure your choices are honored before, during and immediately after the birth of your child.
