The birth of our children is a life changing experience.  We have all heard the stories.  It can be wonderful or it can feel  scary and out of control.  As a doula my mission is to help couples and single mothers have a satisfying experience and not a scary one.

Every birth is unique and every couple is going have different priorities.  It is your birth experience and I am there to support your choices.  I provide coaching with breathing , different laboring positions and massage techniques.  I am the extra set of hands that can go get warm towels, ice, food etc.  I provide calm continuous support. People often ask me “What do you do exactly”?  It is difficult to be exact because it varies from couple to couple. My goal is to meet every woman‘s unique needs.

More recently I have gone though the training to become a post-partum doula. For many reasons people often benefit from extra support and education after the birth of their child. Maybe their family is far away, or they had a cesarean birth or postpartum emotional issues  or their partner has to go back to work right away.  It was a natural progression for me to go from supporting people during their birth to supporting them afterwards.  Please call or email me if you have any questions.  I am always happy to respond.

I have lived in Teton Valley since 1994 and I have been a doula since 2005.  I have attended over 60 births.  It was with the birth of my 2 children (now 8 and 5 years of age) that my interest in this process began.  Before that I worked as an outdoor educator.  As an outdoor educator a big part of my job was providing technical and emotional support for teens and adults in an environment unfamiliar to them.  My students were participating in physically challenging, emotionally intense activities.

Childbirth is a physical and emotionally intense process.  During the birth of my second child I had my partner, a doula and a friend  present . I really benefitted from the extra support.  Shortly afterward I realized that I could bring my 8 years of experience in the outdoor world to the birth world.  I could give other women and their partners the kind of support that I was lucky enough to receive.   I love my work.
